Our philosophy is to look at the last 50 years of our contributions to the Fashion Industry subjectively; gathering themes, inspirations, and articles to convey our growth as a major as well as being authentic to our own personal design aesthetics.

With a proper foundation Designers are able to excel in the Fashion industry. This years show will feature examples of the past, present, and future of the FDM program at UH Manoa.  We will preview the last 50 years of fashion created by alumni in the form of a pop-up museum curated by current students. Alumni will be showcasing a group collection highlighting their refined skills as designers. Junior and Senior designers will be closing the show with their collections inspired by Lifestyle, Environment, and Personality.

ROOTS: The 50th Annual UHM Fashion Show represents the foundation on which all of those participating in this event have built themselves from.

Root: noun

"The part of a plant that attaches it to the ground or to a support, typically underground, conveying water and nourishment to the rest of the plant via numerous branches and fibers."

In this context; The root represents the guidance from the faculty who have supported student designers in order to reach their full potential. The plant is the result of that guidance; though the grandeur of the plant is the aspirations of the students. All of which is not possible without a deeply established foundation.
